Having a Look at Resolve 9

by alexis

I was pleased to be in Montreal, presenting to the Final Cut MTL group’s PostNAB 2012 gathering, and they’ve released the video of my Resolve 9 preview on YouTube. If you’re a current Resolve user, you have a lot to look forward to. If you’re not, but you’re thinking of getting started, the next version will make it a much more enjoyable experience.

Alas, I only had so long to present, but there are plenty of other new features to look forward to, like node labels, renamable still store albums, additional metadata columns in the Media Pool, the list goes on and on.

Thanks again to Matt Pellowski at Red Line Studios for the footage I was able to use.

Thanks for posting this.
Quick question: Will you be updating your tutorial at Ripple Training to go along with this new version?
I’m getting ready to dig in and learn Resolve, but maybe I should wait for the new version to come out to buy your tutorial?
Thanks!

I will indeed be creating new training for Resolve 9, but I won’t be starting until the product ships, and once I record it, these things take a while to construct. My recommendation has been that if you absolutely need to learn resolve to start using it now, the vast majority of what you learn from my current training will be applicable to the next version. Keeping in mind many of the controls are getting rearranged as part of the streamlined UI, much of the basic functionality remains the same.

Thanks. That’s helpful.
I’ll look forward to your new training. And, depending on upcoming projects, I may just get started with your current stuff in the meantime.
Thanks.

Looking forward as well to Resolve 9. It seems largely the same, but different. I came aboard DaVinci with v7 (previous to that in Apple Color) and almost wish that they’d stop it already with the upgrades. But, v9 looks too good to miss. Hope too that you release an update to your Ripple Training Series.
