Short Film: Carry My Heart to the Yellow River

A 21 minute science fiction short I directed in China, which is in the middle of its 2019-2020 film festival run. It’s played in the Hawai’i International Film Festival, Fort Lauderdale International Film Festival, and Orlando Film Festival, among a total of 33 festival acceptances to date, and has won “Short Film Fiction” at the Syracuse International and “Best Family Friendly Film” at South Dakota. Taking her hospitalized friend’s place on a bike tour to the Yellow River, a high school graduate travels to faraway Gannan and races the clock to share pictures of the journey. Short Film: The Place Where You Live

My 12 minute science fiction short had 18 festival screenings in 2014-2015, including the Fort Lauderdale Film Festival, and which won Best Leading Lady at ConCarolinas, Special Jury Prize at Worldfest-Houston, Best Science Fiction Short at Big Easy, along with Editing, Production Design, and VFX awards at Wild Rose, and a nomination for Best Original Score at Idyllwild. A professor of physics is abducted by her counterpart from an alternate dimension – in which her husband has died. Replaced by her doppelgänger, Nina struggles to rebuild the machine which will reopen the gateway between worlds, to regain the life that should be hers. Available to watch on YouTube.

Feature: Four Weeks, Four Hours

My debut feature in 2005 tells the simultaneous stories of two women stranded in the desert on opposite ends of the earth. When her plane crashes, a photographer on assignment finds herself lost and alone in a war-torn middle-eastern country. Halfway around the world, a car breakdown strands an affluent wife along an abandoned stretch of road in the American southwest. Both women need to walk for help under the blazing desert sun, and both are pushed to the limits of their endurance and beyond – the photographer over four weeks, the wife within four hours. Played seven festival screenings internationally, from 2005-2008. Not publicly available.

Been helping my uncle spec, assemble, and configure a home theater with 7.2.4 Dolby Atmos and a 77” LG OLED screen. Have it set up with temp scaffolding while we nudge the configuration. Sounds pretty sweet.

Why in the name of all that is good and right would anyone create puffs with Brussel Sprout flavor. Why?!

Kaylynn and I trimmed the tree. After 20 years of collecting glass ornaments, I think we’ve achieved peak ornamental density.

I usually don’t post photos from my home office, but this is what it’s like working at home in Minnesota. Frost on every window.
